Creativity has a way of finding us in unexpected ways. When I was younger, I dreamed of becoming the next Georgia O'Keeffe. I still to this day love doing botanicals and studying nature.
My daydreaming started in Primary school. Instead of working in my workbook, I was busy drawing doodles. I still have a picture of Indiana Jones from those days. Believing I couldn't make a living being an artist, I pushed it aside. It was just a hobby I did occasionally.
I finally moved from drawing to painting in oils in the late 90's. I learned from Bob Ross on PBS. I still have one book of his I bought. My father also did oil painting for many years on and off. It was fun being able to share this with someone. We would exchange paintings as presents. I have many of his paintings on my wall today.
After about 10 years or so, I moved into acrylics. I really loved this medium. I made homemade Christmas present tags and cards. Painted on metal and wood. Really just for fun. I have done some paint by numbers I really liked. Adding my own shading and textures. I was encouraged to start doing more of my own art and include them in markets. I couldn't really find my own style with acrylics and started to think of going back to oils.
Then in 2020 I took a drawing and watercolor online course. Well that was really the medium that I knew was going to help shape my art. It has changed some in the last few years. I have added pen and ink to my watercolors. I had many people wanting my originals and sold them the first few years, keeping some for myself. I have done custom work, doing paintings of a few houses for people. Now I focus on selling giclee prints and notecards.
I don't really know where my art will take me. I like to just go with the flow. My hope is that people feel the love I put into each piece and experience the joy in my vision of watercolors.
